Concurrent Disorders Interactive Workshop Series
The Education Initiative Team at the Addiction Program offers a variety of workshops designed to enhance concurrent disorders capability. Workshops will provide educational opportunities for Calgary Health Region professionals at varying skill levels and interest who serve patients/clients with concurrent disorders.
Interactive Workshops include:
- One Hour Workshops/Presentations: These presentations will be available as mobile presentations at the request of Calgary Health Region units/programs. Topics will include an overview of the Addiction Program, popular substances of abuse, and promote an introductory management of concurrent disorders.
- Half Day Concurrent Disorders Introductory Workshops: These three hour workshops will be offered on a quarterly basis. The audience will receive an overview of the Addiction Program, definition & prevalence of concurrent disorders, brief screening instruments appropriate for addictions, principles of motivational interviewing and referral options. The audience will experience an opportunity to screen, treat and refer fictional characters with concurrent disorders.

Full Day Workshops: A full day workshop will be offered quarterly at designated and varying locations in Calgary and one designated rural area. Full day workshops will include the content of the half day workshop with additional information addressing pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy and special populations. Adequate time will also be given to practice skill sets with case studies.
